花火本屋 Hanabi Robata Izakaya is a Japanese robata and izakaya chain with two outlets in Johor Bahru: Taman Mount Austin and Kulai. Mount Austin specializes in kushiyaki and yakitori skewers alongside a range of Japanese sake and premium beer, while Kulai is built around robatayaki charcoal grilling, crispy agemono fried dishes and fresh sushi and sashimi, backed by premium sakes, shochu and Japanese whiskies.

Both branches share the same printed menu and the same lantern-and-showa-poster look, right down to dishes like Kimuchi Buta Niku Itame made with Spanish Iberico pork. Reviewers describe the Kulai interior as "quite Showa style — a scene of prosperity and economy booming."

Very Japanese style deco. Lots of variety on the menu. Sashimi and sushi are fresh. Fried chicken (karaage and chicken wings) are crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Chawamushi is soft. Salmon fish head don’t have the mercury taste. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We had their yakitoris, really excellent with good seasoning and just about right kind of char. Superb hana makis! Fried stuff was excellent, so are their small bites and also a wide selection of draft beers and mixed drinks.

The Yuzu Chuhai cocktal is quite refreshing. Having said that, non-alcoholic beverages here are relatively limited. The interior design looks quite Showa style -- a scene of prosperity and economy booming. There are a few highlights for the miso paste stir-fried pork set meal.
